For the Bilker Bunker – a raw, brutalist space turned home for creatives – a flexible logo system was developed in collaboration with the design studio g31. The result: five typographic wordmarks, each with its own character. While grounded in a monospace aesthetic that mirrors the concrete hardness of the Bunker, playful formal details bring a certain lightness into the system. It follows g31’s guiding idea: Everyone can transform – even the Bunker.

Process

Although the fixed-width type structure allowed little freedom, it opened up a world of formal variation. Based on five design themes defined by g31 – Massive, Organic, Elegant, Naive, and Technoid – numerous lettering approaches for each direction were created. Over the course of the process, we distilled each series of sketches into a single key version that best encapsulated the essence of its theme.
