Takeoff
Takeoff is a modern, open sans-serif typeface that flies to no less than 40 destinations in four styles: upright, spike, reversed contrast and the corresponding italics. With the variable font mode switched on, countless additional permutations are possible. So come on board, put on your seatbelt and enjoy the flight. Ready for Takeoff!
Characteristic
Precise, clear shapes, graphic curves and slightly extended letter width give Takeoff a powerful appearance. Whether used for logos, headlines, continuous copy or signage systems – Takeoff easily fits the bill.
The basic framework consists of streamlined shapes: the horizontal line endings blend into a 15° straight line – the average take-off angle of an aircraft. In this way, the shapes are open, easily recognisable and graphic. Although the italic letterform also follows the 15° rule, it provides a comparatively acute angle here which enables greater dynamism.
The style variants also follow the same graphic approach. While the normal reversed contrast letterforms provide greater airiness and take to the air in a leisurely manner, the spike version goes full throttle: it comes across as fast and decisive. Thanks to the variable font mode, the degree of spike can be adjusted independently, so an aggressive spike variant almost morphs into a humanist font when the stroke endings are only slightly angled.
When purchasing the normal fonts, the spike version is automatically included – so there are no additional costs for more adventurous flights of fancy. Details of the special variable font mode can be found below in the Takeoff VF Members Club.
OpenType Features
Takeoff wants to get you safely to your destination. Safe systems for professional typography, such as superior lowercase and figures, tabular and old style figures, are included as standard on all nice to type flights. To give letters that are difficult to distinguish, such as the upper-case ‘I’ and lower-case ‘l’, a more relaxing take-off, there is an ‘I’ with serifs and an ‘l’ with a downstroke. Other alternatives, such as a single-storey ‘a’ and three arrow variants, round off the safety concept for Takeoff.
Variable Font
The Takeoff VF Members Club supports four different styles: weight, italic, spike and reversed contrast. They can be combined in any way to give the ideal airspeed, guaranteed. With every purchase of the complete family of static fonts, the variable font data (desktop and web version) is included.
For short holidays, the Standard family (standard style, spike variant and the corresponding italics) and the reversed contrast family (reversed contrast, reversed contrast spike and the corresponding italics) can also be ordered separately as a family including the variable font.
